On Monday, the SQL Server Release Services team released cumulative updates for both SQL Server 2008 SP1 and SQL Server 2008 SP2. The cumulative update for SP2 restores the fixes that were potentially undone by applying SP2 (or the SP2 CTP) after applying CU9 or CU10 to SP1. Confusing, yes, but at least it's straightened out now. ...

The SQL Server Release Services team recently announced that they have released a new Cumulative Update for SQL Server 2008 SP1:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlreleaseservices/archive/2010/07/19/cumulative-update-9-for-sql-server-2008-service-pack-1.aspx
This update will bring you to build 10.00.2789. From the looks of the KB article, a ...

While I don't recommend you rush out and deploy this to your production instances today, it might not be a bad idea to get a head start on testing the fixes in SQL Server 2008 SP2 in your development and/or test environments. I have tested it on a few standalone machines, and so far have not come across any issues. I have not yet attempted ...

Well, this is the first time in a long time that I've blogged about cumulative updates for two different versions of SQL Server on the same day. Yesterday Microsoft released a cumulative update for SQL Server 2008 SP1 (bringing you to 10.0.2775), and a corresponding cumulative update for SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM (bringing you from 10.50.1600 ...

They have made extremely great strides in this area, and in general, I find the new procedure much more convenient : just go to the KB article, select the fix(es) you want, and you get an almost ...

Late last night, the SQL Server Release Services team announced new cumulative updates for both SQL Server 2008 RTM and SQL Server 2008 SP1.
There are too many fixes to mention, but I once again notice the trend that the ''newer'' branch (SP1) has more fixes than the RTM branch. I suppose they are serious about their commitment to end ...

For those of you watching over the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed an out-of-band, mid-CU-cycle update to SQL Server 2008 SP1. The fix to a cluster issue was available only for the SP1 branch; RTM users had to employ a kludgy workaround (see the ''WORKAROUND'' section in KB #976761). There was also an Analysis Services issue ...
