Nice Johnathan, this is definitely an item of confusion out there. And unfortunately people tend to be very religious about what they think is "how it works".

A very wise and sagacious post as usual. I find the same thing (the misconsception amongst active DBAs) with TRUNCATE or minimally logged transactions altogether. Hey, that would make a great 2-3 hour talk. That or hobts (Sorry Kalen, couldn't resist - don't blacklist me!).

I too have a client doing this, and there's far too much work spent trying to get the most out of each GB. To be fair, their SAN vendor advised them to set things up this way....sigh..

Sadly (and I mean that), I think that when people go to presentations they want 2 things - 1) Something pithy they can immediately take to their work and make a big splash and 2) something directly pertaining to the work they do (context).
This of course rules out more ...
