I've been working with SQL Server for over 20 years now, and I'm still learning new things all the time. One of the things I want to use this blog for is to have a place to tell people about new things I discover.

I also want a blog to keep up with my daughter, who has been blogging for several years. She has much better photographs on her blog. Check it out:

Here are some personal details:

In addition to my beautiful and brilliant blogging daughter Melissa, I have 3 sons and the most wonderful husband I could ever imagine. Two of my sons are in college. Brendan is studying at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, and Rickey studied Theater for a year at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, home of the Oregon Shakespeare festival, and then transferred to a Community College closer to home. He just earned his AA degree in June 2008. Connor just finished his second year of high school, and with his good looks and great talent, not to mention his brilliance, he's doing fine.

My husband Dan is chief instructor (Sensei) at an Aikido dojo. Aikido is a non-competitive Japanese martial art that is practiced worldwide. I met Dan when I joined Aikido of Berkeley in 1983, and practiced until the birth of our first son. I took a long break while my kids were small, during which time we moved to Washington state, and Dan started his own dojo. I restarted my training again in 2002 after a 15 year break. I was awarded my first degree black belt (shodan) two days after finishing the last chapter of Inside SQL Server 2005: The Storage Engine.

We live in a wonderful house right on the shore of Liberty Bay, in Poulsbo, Washington, a ferryboat ride away from Seattle, and the Microsoft Redmond campus.
