After spending the last two weeks rearranging my life, and getting matters in order to go overseas for a year, today I got an email telling me that the unit being mobilized has met its personnel requirements and I won't be being deployed. Its really one of those moments of joy that is overshadowed by frustration. I am very happy that I get to spend time with my family, but at the same time in the words of my wife when I told her the good news "At this point it would be better if you did go." Her point being we've prepared for it, and being called to active duty is inevitable, it is going to happen, so at this point it would be better to just get the year over with and move on rather than sitting in limbo wondering if/when it might happen.
So for the time being, it looks like I'll still be around for a bit which is great news. My thanks go out to everyone in the community that offered advice and assistance over the last two weeks. It is great to be a part of such a wonderful group of people.
