PASS Summit 2011 – Slides & Demos

Just reading from all posts and tweets it’s quite clear that this year’s PASS has been a great success. Despite of the bad cold that I had from Monday Sad smile, I’ve enjoyed it at lot. All the parties, the friends, the community and the great content make PASS an appointment one that should not to be missed.

I’ve also enjoyed a lot delivering “Temporal Snapshot Fact Table” session. From the feedback I had attendees enjoyed it too Smile.

All the related material will be soon available here

Upgrading SSIS to Denali - Management Considerations and Best Practices [BIA-311-S]

For all those who cannot wait to download the slides and the demos from PASS website, I’ve uploaded everything on my SkyDrive folder. If you need them just send me an email, I’ll be happy to send the public link to you Smile

Hi Davide,

I just recently watched your session on DVD. It really is helpful. I have a question in regards to the logic in deriving the DateRangeKey.

You've mentioned in the session that if we have "valid_from" and "valid_to" dates of "2009-01-01" to "2009-02-03" the DateRangeKey value for this instance is "200901010203" (slide 33 doesn't show the DateRangeKey). My question is how do we implement the DateRangeKey for end of year validity and/or breakdown such as row 7 on the record set of Slide 33, where we have "2009-12-01" and "2010-01-01". Any advice?

I've also used "2999-12-31" as future date or unknown, e.g. valid_to and valid_from of "2012-03-06" to "2999-12-31" with DateRangeKey "201203069999". I'm not sure if there is any drawback of using non valid "MMDD" values as the last 4 digits of the DateRangeKey.

Thanks in advance.
