For those of you that held out on installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 because it was missing the fixes from RTM's Cumulative Updates 7 & 8, your wait is over - CU1 is here and it contains these fixes. I didn't verify this for every fix individually, but this is supposed to be the goal, so I'm going to take a leap of faith here. You can download the CU here (and you can read about the rest of SP1 in a previous blog post):
KB #2544793 : Cumulative update package 1 for SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1
The build number is 10.50.2769.
Slipstreaming
Here is Peter Saddow's advice on slipstreaming Service Pack 1 into the RTM binaries:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/petersad/archive/2011/07/13/how-to-slipstream-sql-server-2008-r2-and-a-sql-server-2008-r2-service-pack-1-sp1.aspx
And you can follow his steps for combining SP1 + CU1 for SQL Server 2008 - the process is largely the same:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/petersad/archive/2009/04/16/create-a-merged-slipstream-drop-containing-sql-server-2008-server-pack-1-and-a-cumulative-update-cu-based-on-server-pack-1.aspx
A Reminder
And once again, just to be clear, this Cumulative Update is for SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1, not for SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM (build # < 10.50.2425) and not for SQL Server 2008 (build number 10.00.anything). Note that Microsoft did also release cumulative updates for SQL Server 2008 SP1 & SP2 today.
